Text & Codes Free

Every receipt, sign and QR code becomes searchable.

On-device text recognition in Latin, Chinese, Devanagari, Japanese and Korean scripts, plus barcode and QR detection you can browse and search.

Receipts, whiteboards, menus, boarding passes and screenshots all contain text. Pixel Gallery reads it on the device and makes it searchable.

Text recognition

ML Kit text recognition runs in five scripts. The app filters gibberish, then extracts entities it recognizes: URLs, email addresses, phone numbers and IBANs. The “has text” quick filter and the Documents filter surface these photos instantly, and any word you search matches the recognized text.

Codes

QR codes and barcodes are detected and decoded. The Codes section in Discover lists every code in your library, and a QR code with a link can be opened from there.

Redaction in the editor

Because the app knows where the text and codes are, the photo editor’s Blur tool can blur them with one tap, which is the fastest way to share a document without leaking an ID number or a boarding pass barcode.

Privacy

Recognition happens on the device and the results are stored in the encrypted metadata database. Screenshots that contain passwords or account numbers are as private as any other photo, and can be hidden in the vault.

Questions about text & codes

Which languages does text recognition support?

Five scripts through ML Kit, covering Latin-based languages, Chinese, Devanagari, Japanese and Korean. Gibberish is filtered out so noise does not pollute search.

Can I copy the text?

Yes. Recognized text is available in the viewer, and detected URLs, emails, phone numbers and IBANs are extracted as actionable entities.
